Powell River

The city of Powell River is located within the southwestern region of British Columbia, but sits on the northern portion of the Sunshine Coast. The city of River Powell is the seat of the Powell River Regional District. Most of the cities population lives on Malaspina Strait's eastern shoreline, that can be situated between Texada Island and the Mainland. Even with the proximity to Vancouver and a few other crowded cities, the community remains really secluded due to it's geographical surroundings. There are two intervening fjords that prevent the construction of an adjoining road connection with Vancouver.

The city of Powell River hosts among the most premiere diving locales on the west coast. The waters are clear and beautiful and the strong currents within the Malaspina Straight add to the magnificence of the site. There are over 100 dive locations that have captured worldwide attention from scuba divers. There is one absolutely spectacular site which is surrounded by a ring of ten Liberty ships that were sunk offshore so as to protect the deep-water harbor during the year 1947. Marine life, like for instance giant octopi and wolf eels, seek shelter within a few of the sunken ships and create several fascinating sites for divers.

During the summer months, the area around the city of Powell River is home to much wildlife, like for instance raptors, bears and salmon.
