Maple Ridge, nestled below the Blue Mountain on the northern part of the Fraser River, is an idyllic community that is proud of its First Nations heritage. It was named after John McIver, a settler on a ridge above the Fraser River during 1860. In the year 1874, his very own group of men gathered at his farm to talk about incorporating the whole district of Pitt River and Mission for the road building's taxation. The property of Mclver had a stretch of beautiful maple trees on his very own property, which was the origin for the name "Maple Ridge." The city of Maple Ridge was incorporated on the 12th of September, the year 1874, making it the sixth municipality to be formed in B.C.
