Pitt Meadows

Pitt Meadows

The small city of Pitt Meadows is located in southwestern British Columbia. The city of Pitt Meadows was incorporated during 1914, and now presently has an approximate population of 17,500, covering 85.38 square kilometers. Pitt River is located to the west of Pitt Meadows, and links the Fraser river with Pitt Lake, which is the planet's largest fresh water tidal lake. A delta has formed where Pitt River links to the lake because of it's backwards flow during high tide. As a result of its proximity to some rivers and it's low-lying ground, the city of Pitt Meadows is a flood plain town. A big wildlife refuge is located within a peat bog in the northern sector of the flood plain. Towards the East of Pitt Meadows is the city of Maple Ridge and towards the West, past Pitt River, is the city of Port Coquitlam.

The communities of Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge are considered the Lower Mainland's quickest growing communities. The rural setting is a great feature, whilst the city of Pitt Meadows is still fairly near a large, urban metropolis. The city of Pitt Meadows is well-known for its specialty crops of fruit, including raspberries, blueberries, cranberries, and strawberries. The Fraser River supports a commercial fishery and the forest products in the area are utilized as a main source.

The majority of land in the city of Pitt Meadows is devoted to residential properties. Approximately 85 percent of the population commutes to work outside of Pitt Meadows. Health Food and Beverage, Primary Education, Accommodation and Construction are the largest employment sectors within the city of Pitt Meadows.

A new shopping centre was just developed on the border of Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge. Several large companies now lease retail space at this place, like for instance: Michaels, a Real Canadian Superstore, Telus, Jysk/Winners/Homesense, Bell, EB Games, Cineplex, Tim Hortons and a La Vie En Rose. Even with the recent additions of several commercial buildings, 86% of the landmass within the city of Pitt Meadows is located in British Columbia's Agricultural Land Reserve.

In the city of Pitt Meadows, there are numerous greenhouses that grow cut flowers and specialty peppers. Other vital agricultural products consist of cranberries and blueberries.

The quiet pastoral town of Maple Ridge is situated close by on the North bank of the Fraser River. Maple Ridge's history has been well preserved and the city of Pitt Meadows proudly showcases it's rich heritage of First Nations and pioneer history in the Maple Ridge Museum and Archives.

Port Coquitlam is situated in the centre of the Lower Mainland and provides a breathtaking setting and quality living. It's convenient centre location gives it a small town appeal while maintaining big city connections.
