The town of Ladner is part of the Municipality of Delta and is part of Metro Vancouver. The town was created along the banks of the Fraser River as a fishing village. Situated on Highway 17, it lies in the extreme southwest corner of the BC mainland, 27 km south of Vancouver and 27 km west of White Rock and the Peace Arch border crossing. The city of Tsawwassen is the nearest community and this is where the ferry terminal is located for service to Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
The name "Ladner" originates from the Ladner brothers: William and Thomas. They arrived in the region during 1868 and started farming and fishing operations. The place enabled the area to develop as a center for these operations. Access across the river to Richmond was allowed by the ferry at Captain's Cove and the George Massey Tunnel brought a permanent connection during the year 1959.
