Vernon is a city located in the south-central region of British Columbia, Canada. The city was named after the Forbes George Vernon, who was a previous MLA of BC. He helped found the famous Coldstream Ranch. On December 30, 1892, the City of Vernon was incorporated. Within the area referred to as Greater Vernon, or the metropolitan region, the population is 55,418, while Vernon city has a population of 35,944. People who live here are known as "Vernonites."
