Downtown Vancouver

Downtown Vancouver

Downtown Vancouver, is usually described as the southeastern part of the peninsula situated in the north-central part of the city of Vancouver. This Metro Vancouver lower mainland region is the financial, commercial, entertainment, cultural, business and government hub of the city.

Usually, the downtown area is said to be bounded by the Downtown Eastside to the east, False Creek to the south, West end and Stanley Park towards the west and Burrard Inlet towards the north. The City of Vancouver defines the West End neighborhood and Stanley Park as separate vicinities though numerous sources include the whole downtown peninsula as part of the downtown Vancouver description.

Within the Downtown core, there are several really popular residential neighborhoods among the financial and central business districts. Condominiums and high-rise apartment complexes are mixed in the city's office towers. Yaletown and Coal Harbour are among the most popular. Other downtown neighborhoods include Chinatown, Gastown, Japantown, Downtown South and the Granville Mall and Entertainment District.

Access to downtown Vancouver is limited by the presence of water on three sides. There are 4 major bridges: the Granville Street Bridge, the Burrard Street Bridge, Cambie Street Bridge provides the access to the residential and commercial places south of False Creek and the Lions Gate Bridge connects to the North Shore Municipalities and the Trans Canada Highway.

People who are attracted to urban living will enjoy boutique shopping along Robson Street, going to various concerts and theatres, and eating at world-class restaurants. The area has a beautiful sky and sea scape that is great for outdoor recreation. For the outdoorsy type, in the city of Vancouver you can windsurf or go waterskiing at dawn, do some night skiing at one of the local North Shore Mountains and play a round of Golf in the afternoon. Vancouver is a clean, colorful and friendly city. It has something to offer everyone who visits.
